Hyrum Wright, WANdisco: Subversion as a Platform

Level: advanced

The popularity of Apache Subversion has continued to grow, not simply because of it's usefulness as an independent tool, but also due to it's ability to be used as a platform for building and enforcing SCM process within organizations large and small.

In this talk, I'll discuss some of the cultural and technological factors which make using Subversion as a platform a good choice. I'll talk about the various parts of the Subversion platform, such as scripts, APIs, protocols, and disk formats, and how users can use them as part of a cohesive platform, rather than simply a single tool. Finally, I'll talk about some of the improvements expected moving forward, and solicit audience feedback for improvements they would like to see in the Subversion platform.

As Director of Open Source at WANdisco, Hyrum Wright actively contributes to Subversion and leads a team of 4 Subversion committers. He is currently the release manager for the Subvesion project, and has spoken at a number of industry conferences and events. Hyrum has worked on Subversion for the past four years, and has contributed to a number of features, including merge tracking and the next generation working copy library (WC-NG).  Hyrum holds an M.S. in Computer Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin and a B.S. in Computer Engineering from Brigham Young University. He is currently working on a PhD in Software Engineering, and has several scientific publications in this area.
